Tom and the Clean Energy Design team have been helping customers realize the benefits of renewable energy systems since 1996. Our company offers a turnkey service for residential and commercial installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal systems. The Clean Energy Design team are experts in energy efficiency, multiple system integration and grid-tied, battery backed and off-grid solar electric systems. The team at Clean Energy Design also participates in giving back to the local community through participation in charities, educational events, and volunteering.
Tom Wineman, Chief Executive & Technology Officer
Clean Energy Design founder, Tom Wineman, brings over twenty five years of comprehensive technical experience in renewable energy systems and energy efficiency. He began with the study of the early practices of wind and solar power as well as efficiency measures; and observed the positive convergence of these technologies. Tom has acquired a deep understanding of how these systems can be put into practical use. He has completed scores of successful installations in institutional, educational and residential buildings, which attest to his capacity and quality of work. He is a specialist in site analysis, system design and installation of multiple renewable energy system types including photovoltaic, wind energy, and solar thermal.
Tom and his company have installed numerous battery backed and off grid solar systems starting in the late 90’s. Beginning in 2002, he designed and installed three types of off-grid renewable energy systems for Race Point Light Station in Provincetown, MA. His company installed a solar PV, small wind energy system and solar thermal hot water system over the course of several years. In addition, he has specified and installed numerous stand-alone and grid interactive battery backed systems, including a community garden water supply project in Sandwich, MA. In 2004, at Waquoit Bay Research Reserve, Tom designed and installed a stand-alone solar powered pathway, area and security lighting system.
In addition to such technical work, Tom has also assisted in developing policy and model zoning to lower barriers and facilitate the implementation of wind power and other renewable energy technologies. He has been a key member of several local environmental & clean energy advocacy organizations. He was also instrumental in the development of early Massachusetts renewable energy incentive programs such as the Solar-To-Market Initiative and the adaptation of legislation that expands the versatility of net metering across the Commonwealth.
Tom’s commitment is further demonstrated by his dedication to providing educational outreach & workforce training for renewable technologies. He designed and developed a renewable energy demonstration trailer, which over the course of a decade appeared at dozens of schools and educational events. He has instructed a number of photovoltaic, solar thermal system, and wind training workshops for all types of students. He also has participated in NAPCEP certification workshops and served on the exam committee for the development of the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) solar thermal certification program.
Nancy Reynolds, VP Sales & Marketing
Nancy has been a long time friend of Tom’s and works closely with him to oversee the management of the sales team and company. Growing up in the Adirondacks, she has had a deep appreciation for the environment and nature from a very young age. She leads the sales team in balancing the goals and initiatives for the Company. She has collaborated with our marketing team to advance CED’s marketing, branding, and online web presence. In addition to her involvement with renewable energy, she has owned and managed a sustainable interior design business for 29 years. Nancy’s prior sales, customer service, and management experience make her a great fit for the Company. Her keen eye and appreciation for design help to ensure not only a high performance, high quality system, but an esthetically pleasing result for our clients.
Frank Smith, Commercial Sales:
Frank has facilitated business strategy formulation and implemented competitive operating processes and systems in service delivery, manufacturing, and health insurance companies. Frank joined Clean Energy Design as a satisfied commercial customer and is focused on expanding our company’s presence in the commercial space. He holds a MS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY and a BS from the University of Connecticut. He co-authored, Managing Professional Service Delivery: 9 Rules for Success, CRC Press, June 2014 and co-authored a chapter, “Project Management in the Professional Services Context” in the Handbook of Industrial Engineering Third Edition, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., in cooperation with the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
Lisa Schwab, Director of Operations & Marketing:
Lisa brings her extensive experience and organizational skills to work at Clean Energy Design as the Director of Operations and Marketing. Her previous roles have provided the experience necessary to successfully oversee the operations and marketing efforts of Clean Energy Design. As a production manager for a large scale event company in Los Angeles she was able to hone in her organizational and multi-tasking skills to produce some premier events such as the Governor’s Ball for the Academy Awards, and Grammy’s and the InStyle Party for the Golden Globes. She also headed up marketing initiatives for companies in the film and manufacturing industries. Creating and designing advertisements and effectively marketing and promoting the companies corporate image and labels. Lisa’s experience has already brought a great deal to our company and in her role as Director of Operations and Marketing she will be continuing to work closely with our customers and ensuring seamless installations. She will also be overseeing the marketing department and our initiatives to not only market Clean Energy Design but discovering new paths to promote our creative solutions.
Lorri Alexander, Controller/ Accounts Manager
Lorri brings extensive experience in several types of small businesses, “doing it all” as an accounting manager. She’s had the privilege of working for a world re-known historical document dealer, being part of a growing non-profit historical museum, as well as multi-entity companies, wholesalers and custom home builders. She defines herself as a bookkeeper with a lot of heart and a sense of humor. After raising her family in Medway, Massachusetts, the next phase of life brought her, her husband, three dogs and a cat to Cape Cod seven years ago. Lorri is excited for the opportunity to be part of the Clean Energy Team.
Mark Spivey, System Design & IT Specialist:
Mark assists with system design and layout, proposal generation and CAD drawings for permitting. In addition, he leads our team with communications systems and performance monitoring. He has a wide variety of experience with CAD, IT and computer technology. Mark is our go-to person for all questions computer and IT related. His knowledge of system design, IT and electronics make him a great asset to the team.
